(Opening scene of the movie, Chihiro & her mother and father are driving in the car.)
Chihiro's father - Chihiro! Chihiro, we're almost there.
Chihiro's mother - This is a very rural area. I guess we'll have to go to the next town to shop.
Chihiro's father - It won't be that bad once we get used to it. Look! There's an elementary school! Chihiro, that's your new school.
Chihiro's mother - Well isn't that a nice clean school.
Chihiro - I liked the old one better. Ahhhhh... ahhhhhhh! Mom the flowers are all wilted!
Chihiro's mother - That's because you hold on to them so tightly. Just sprinkle some water on them when we get home and they will be alright.
Chihiro - This is the first time I've gotten a bouquet and it's a goodbye bouquet. How sad.
Chihiro's mother - Didn't you receive flowers at your last birthday party?
Chihiro - I did, but it wasn't a bouquet, it was just one flower.
Chihiro's mother - You dropped this card. I'll open the window for you, don't be so gloomy. Cheer up! We have lots of things to do today.




(Chihiro's father drives from a paved road onto a dirt road.)
Chihiro's father - Hmmm... I think we went the wrong way. This is strange...
Chihiro's mother - Isn't that it over there?
Chihiro's father - Huh?
Chihiro's mother - The blue house at the corner.
Chihiro's father - That should be it. We went down the wrong road.
Chihiro's mother - We can still get there if we use this road. You always get lost.
Chihiro's father - Only for a bit, ok?
Chihiro - What's that over there?
Chihiro's mother - That's a shrine. A house for spirits.
Chihiro - Dad, will we be okay?
Chihiro's father - Don't worry Chihiro, this car has four wheel drive.
Chihiro's mother - Chihiro, sit down.




(The car stops in front of a windy tunnel.)
Chihiro's mother - What is this building?
Chihiro's father - I think it's a city gate of some sort.
Chihiro's mother - Honey, let's just go. Honey!
(Chihiro gets out of the car)
Chihiro's mother - Chihiro! My goodness...
Chihiro's father - So this building is made of ash. Looks pretty new.
Chihiro - It's sucking in air.
Chihiro's mother - What's up?
Chihiro's father - Let's go take a look first. We should be able to get through.
Chihiro - I don't want to go in there! Let's just leave Dad!
Chihiro's father - What is it? What are you so afraid of? Hey, let's go in and take a look.
Chihiro's mother - The moving truck has already arrived.
Chihiro's father - Don't worry. They have a key, right? They will take care of everything for us.
Chihiro's mother - That's just wishful thinking.
Chihiro - No way! Let's just get out of here! I'm not going in there Dad!
Chihiro's father - Come on in. It will be alright.
Chihiro - I'm not going in!
Chihiro's mother - Chihiro, wait for us in the car.
Chihiro - Mom! Wait for me!
Chihiro's father - Follow me and be careful.
Chihiro's mother - Chihiro, you are holding me very tightly. How am I going to be able to walk?
Chihiro's mother - Where is this place? Do you hear that?
Chihiro - It's the sound of the rain.
Chihiro's mother - Maybe this place is close to a railroad station.
Chihiro's father - Let's go, we'll soon find out.
